Hi You, Snowman.

Tuesday!  Kristina Colour Challenge, number 31!  This week the image was provided from one of the beautiful shots she took of a gorgeous wreath.

The colours we were to use are:

I must admit, I was highly influenced by the cute button snow man on the special holiday edition magazine of Martha Stewart (Have Yourself a Handmade Christmas).  The button-man was just so cute, I went with it.  If you don’t already have the magazine, oh man, pick it up it’s just all Martha: ideas, ideas, ideas.

Okay, here’s my card:

I tried out my new Nestabilities, (bought at Heather’s)  I have problems with the embossing, but I’m trying to learn.  I don’t put too many shims of paper in, because I’m worried about breaking it, but maybe that’s why the embossing is not as deep.

Also cut up little bits of the Rub Ons for snow flakes.  Yes, figity.

Be sure to check out all the fun interpretations of Kristina’s Colour Inspiration.  Thanks for the fun, Kristina!

Used:  Elegant Eggplant CS, Close To Cocoa CS, Close to Cocoa Marker, Elegant Eggplant Marker, Eastern Elegance Rub Ons, Forever in TIme Gemstone Stickers, Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels One”, Punch Pals (for the arms & scarf of the snow man), Buttons, Embroidery Floss: J & P Coats Colour 3046, Spellbinders Nestabilites:  Label One (used in a cuttlebug, with a tan mat)

Starry Birthday.

Was surfing on Paper Craft Planet’s site & found the PCP Colour Challenge. Each Wednesday they put up an inspiration photo with colours to use and well, I thought I’d give it a go.

Not sure where they got the inspiration photo from, but here it is:

Wow, I had a hard time with this challenge, and I almost didn’t do it because my shipment of Neutrals hasn’t come in yet, but I thought I’d try anyway. Plus I really wanted to try my (new to me) Classic Stars Wheel.

As I was getting ready to post this, I was looking at the other AMAZING takes at PCP Colour Challenge (PCPCC1) on this inspiration and nearly didn’t post mine. Wow, they’re great. Love it when people share their ideas.

edit:  sorry there is also a link here at PCP Colour Challenge 1, that Katherine has organized.

Used: Riding Hood Red Ink, Really Rust Ink, Going Grey Marker, Really Rust Textured CS, Starburst Transit PP The Paper Company, Stampin’ Wheel: Classic Stars, Starring You Stamp Set. Star Punches, Circle Punches 1 3/4″ & 1 3/8″, Scallop Cutter Blade (45mm) for Fiskars Trimmer, dimensionals, Offray opal gray 5/8″ ribbon.

I saw the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge & thought, hey, I know that Friday Sneak Peek! Sorry, girls, it’s unmistakable. The Epic Movie of Gone With The Wind. Man, like hasn’t everybody (well except my DH) seen it like a dozen times?

So I got to work on a card for Gone with the Wind. As I was musing, I couldn’t get that goofy sketch from the Carol Burnett Show out of my head. Any 30-something’s remember it? Anyways, I was stuck on the Green Dress, either Vivian Leigh’s or Carol’s Curtain Rod. Oh man, that costume was too funny.

Here’s my Christmas Card:

Okay the bow: Easy Peasy, or as “it’s a Good Thing” or whatever, but I did NOT come up with it. I saw it here on Step By Step Crafting Lessons and here on Diana Gibbs site, just to name a few amazing crafter girls. This is my take on the “fork” bow.

Before you think we’re some kind of odd giants, I’m using a massive serving fork here for easy of photos. Weave the ribbon through:

and weave it back:

and through & back and if you have a medium size ribbon, it’ll only make 5 rows.

Take a separate piece of matching ribbon & poke through a the bottom, middle tine.

Bring that same ribbon up and through at the top middle tine.

Tie tightly.

Nice eh? Not quite done.

Pull off of the fork, TAH-DAH:

I used the same “fork” bow technique on this card. However, because it was a narrower ribbon, I wrapped it a bit more, so more loops to the bow. I’m not really happy with the card, well, because I can’t do sunset cards. I’ve looked at tutorials & well I am terrible at it. But I will keep trying. Any hints, please let me know. I think I just use to many inks & the clouds are too light & kids are “wanting to help” too. (can I blame them, any excuse will do LOL)

Haven’t put a card/scrappage/paper craft together for this challenge? You have until Thursday! Go for it, it’s just too much fun.

Be sure to check out SplitCoastStampers CSCC or of course, Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #6. Thanks Brooke & Sankari for putting this creative mind stretching challenge on each week.

EASY Gift Bag

Saw this oh so easy & oh so cute VIDEO tutorial of a BAG-A-LOPE by the adorable Dawn Griffith and had to give it a go.

I swapped out a few things, but essentially the same easy-peasy cute bag.

Because I didn’t have any Stampin’ Up envelopes (I know, crazy) I used an ivory envelop with a regular triangle close at the back.  I didn’t like the way this looked so I covered it up with some PP.

Embroidery cross stitch floss (great for matching up colours & inexpensive) was used to tie the bag of goodies & for the label.  I also coloured in the centre of an ornament stamp (snowflake) with a marker.

I was messing around with combining different blues together on a card … not overly happy with the mix of blues, but lesson learned.  The Snow Flake on the front was cut out with a Cricut Machine with a Home Accents Cartridge.  My machine fussed with it a bit, but after the 2nd try, I got a snowflake I was happy with.  Maybe I should change the blade.

The other difference was I used Twill Tape Ribbon for the handle.  The ribbon was pierced through with a Crop-a-dile & a paper piercer for the bag, to allow the brad to go through.  I didn’t like the brad showing on the inside so I covered it with PP cut with Circle cutters & attached with sticky tape.  The Glass bead at the front, well it’s not a bead, it’s actually like a snap, really.  (bought at dollar store, under “crafts” label)  Anyways, it had a tidy closure on the inside so I didn’t cover it.

Here’s the Rhinestone brad at the side, securing the twill Tape.  Really sturdy, actually.

So all in all here’s what I used, although you could get away without all the punches, but I’m a punch girl.

Used:  Stamps:  Le meilleur de tout, Ornament stamp (remarkable?), Punches:  1″ circle, 3/4″ circle, 1 3/4″ circle, curly label punch, Bordering Blue Marker, Versa fine Ink, Embossing Buddy, Detail Black Embossing Powder, Martha Stewart Twill Tape 9/16 ribbon, Lerman Decor 664 Embroidery Floss, Urban Garden PP & Manchester PP (S.U.), Cricket Home Accents Cartridge,  Rhinestone Brads, “crafts” Snap Glass Bead, envelope, cellophane bag, with cookies ;)

Wow, this was tough for me this week, Beate.  I fought with the purple & the bold colours.  I did have fun though with Beate’s Be Inspired Challenge #31.  Thanks, Beate!

This weeks inspiration comes from this mobile at Gifts Define:

After messing around for a while on birds & colours oh, my I just got off that track completely.

In Canada, Remembrance day, November 11th, at 11 am, the country pauses and for one minute, we stop and say ‘Thank you, for freedom, Thank you for your sacrifice.” We wear poppies to show respect to soldiers.

When I was a child, there was no school on November 11th. My parents would take us downtown to the Cenotaph in Ottawa and we would watch the ceremony. I was born in the 70’s in Canada, so I had no idea what it was really all about, I honestly think the horrors of war is thankfully beyond any comprehension of a child and perhaps only until you have a spouse, a child could you begin to imagine the pain of loosing that person. For me, as a child, I only knew that my parents would lean down & tell me, “it’s important to remember”.

Children now attend school on Remembrance day and my husband works (although does pause at 11), but I think at supper together we will talk about it with our 9, 7 & almost 3 year old, as best we can. I think we will have the older two read the poems that might impress on them, maybe not now, but sometime.

Inside this card that we’ll give them are two poems.

I think Emma-Sian should read, “In Flanders Fields”:

and Malcolm should read “Young Fellow My Lad”:

I am so thankful for living in a country where my family is free to openly practice Christianity, and feel safe, be able to vote and live life oh my the list of thankfulness is endless.

Used: Stamps: Renewed Faith, Define Your Life, Inks: Craft White, Going Gray, Baja Breeze, Sahara Sand, 3/4″ circle punch, Curly punch, Buttons, dimensionals, Sahara Sand CS. Ivory CS.

Celebrate

Here’s my SK110808 Card Sketch Challenge that I saw on Susanna Boyd’s Blog.

I’m not very good at Sketch Challenges. I have difficulty staying on a pattern. Looking at the sketch again, I think it’s more square than it should be, but I thought I’d give it a go anyhow. Hope it’s okay.

The Lacé Template (This is the only link I could find of them) I’ve had for years, & have fun pulling it out every now & again. Athough the cuts aren’t really clean, so forgive the sloppiness of it.

Thanks, Susanna, for the fun.

Be sure to check out other fun interpretations at PCP (Paper Craft SK110808) and I think some are submitting at SCS SplitCoastStampers SK110808 too.

Used: Kiwi Kiss Ink, Riding Hood Red CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Kiwi Kiss CS, Baja Breeze CS, (unknown Green CS from stash), Holiday Treasures PP, Word Window Punch, Starring You Stamp Set, Light Yellow Green Cross Stitch Embroidery Floss, Lacé Template, (rather dull) Xacto knife, Buttons from my Stash, Creative Memories Circle Cutter, Sticky Tape.

Mémoires

So it’s time for a Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge. I saw this week’s Friday Sneak Peek. (Which I LOVE those teasers). I was pretty sure it was from Memoirs of a Geisha, so I started on the challenge ahead of time. Weekends are crazy busy around here and if I’m wrong, well, hmm maybe I should wait to post until Saturday & a confirmation. Nah, I’m taking a chance! I’m running most of the day tomorrow.

There are so many beautiful images from Memoirs of a Geisha. I went with this image on which to base my card:

I made a tiny little fan (10″x2″ strip) and showed my DH. “It’s for ‘Memoirs from a Geisha’!” Response DH: “I feel I should be falling off my bike.” He’s great with obscure references. What can I say, we were made for each other. Alright, enough, here’s my card:

Be sure to check out Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge or SplitCoastStampers CSCC for more fun interpretations or to add one in yourself (You have until Thursday, of course if you’re like me you’ll get to it as soon as you make some free time). Can’t wait to see what everyone brings.

Thanks again to Sankari & Brooke for all the effort & creativity they put into this motivating & fun site.

Used: Inkadinkado Stamps, River Rock CS, Martha Stewart PP, PP from Dollar Store (? Craft), River Rock Ink, Martha Stewart Double-faced Putty Satin 7/8″ ribbon, Gold Embossing Powder (applied 4 times on Card Board for fan base), Flower Stem Wire, Dimensionals, Sticky Tape.

Guy’s Guy Card

So time for another Autumnal Card. I’ve noticed the deers around the forests near us, coming out, fattening up a bit before the snow hits, I guess. Anyways, here’s my Deer Card.

Oh & BTW my DH:, “ya, nice card, can you put some cross hairs on the side of the buck?” Me: “um, ya rather not”. Yes, his family are hunters. I did not come from a hunting family. My meat, cows/chickens, should be nicely wrapped in cellophane or that pink butcher’s paper. Or better yet, how ’bout just be in awe of the beauty of these graceful animals.

Used: Noble Deer Stamp Set, S.U. (afternoon tea?) DSP, Not Quite Navy CS, S.U. Markers, Blender Pen, Versa Mark Ink, Brown Embossing Powder (SU retired), Green Embossing Powder (S.U. retired), Staples, Suede Lace from Tejas Lace Company, Dimensionals.
