Beate’s Be Inspired Challenge #18

Here’s the Martha Stewart Cake that Beate is putting out there for the BIC18 challenge:

Here’s the card I ended up with. I think this will be a thank you card for Malcolm’s teacher. Now Emma’s teacher will be tomorrow, I believe. Oh yes & pick up the gift certificates too. (put it on the list).

Thanks Beate for the fun Inspiration. (and for keeping me on top of the ‘end of year school cards’.)

For more fun interpretations check out SplitCoastStampers Be Inspired Challenge #18. Man too much fun.

I used S.U. DSP, Cuttlebug Embossing Template, Wild Wasabi Ink, Mellow Moss Ink. Eyelettes, Rick-Rack, Coluzzle templates, Corner Rounders, Flower Punch.

Thank You’s for teachers

Getting to the end of the year where activities and school are wrapping up. This week is the last week of Piano lessons for Emma and Malcolm. I must admit, Malcolm is having a difficult time to sit down and practice when he could be running around outside in the fab weather, so it’s good to take a break for a couple months & have a fresh start in the autumn.

This is a quick ‘thank you’ card for their wonderful teacher. Man, she has patience. I’ll pick up a gift certificate to slip inside this week.

I did have a bit of a problem just putting a ‘U’ rather than a ‘YOU’ … what’s wrong with me, it’s okay if it’s not the “queen’s english”. I have the same problems with text messaging too … not down with the L8R & other such shorties. Anyways on with the card …

Here’s the inside of the card, where I’ll tuck in the gift certificate.

Used Cuttlebug Embossing templates (with Sizzix), Rounded Slit Punch, Sticky Tape, Coluzzle Square, Chipboard letter (dollar store), S.U. Pink Embossing Powder, Detailed Black Embossing Powder, Versa Mark, Dimensionals, Cuttlebug letters, Close to Cocoa CS, Cameo Coral CS, Make a Wish S.U. Stamp (for pattern on letter), Dollar store stickers.

Happy Father’s Day

Firstly to my own DAD! A little retro 70’s … Why did my parents ever get rid of that grooovy kitchen wall paper.

and secondly to my DH. Here’s what the kids laid out for himsit down to (before his coffee, bacon, poached eggs, & bagel, of course).

Malcolm’s Grass Hair Dad:

and the inside of Malcolm’s Card:

Emma’s Pop Up Card (I’m so proud!):

Liam gave Daddy a green balloon that was “just like Daddy’s favwit gween sheeert”. I didn’t take a picture of it, because ‘it was only for Daddy’. Okay then.

Oh yes, and a t-shirt for our Tim Horton’s man:

Kristina Werner’s Colour Inspiration #11

Here is Kristina’s Colour Inspiration #11. Had another tough time … I think it’s the 5 colours, as opposed to 4. Ahh well, without challenge there is no growth, yes?

The colours were pulled from IKEA, a store that I love to go & my dh loathes. Something about being herded around like cattle. Blah, blah, blah, it’s cheap & has unique stuff.

Here is the image of the bedroom and the corresponding S.U. Colours:

and

I sorta’ cheated for using all the colours. I used my Stamping Quad (for a marble effect). So the Colours are there, they just REALLY tiny. The Circle Trim idea, I cut them out à la JeNN, (CI#2) she has some wonderful ideas … stop by there.

I can’t find one example of the quad so here’s what it looks like & here’s a separate picture of the rubber images I used. Here’s what the quad gave me (raided with the 1″ punch & rounded slit punch):

Here is my card … heavy on the white, (as per the parameters), I’m hoping I broke up my ‘bold on the white’ with some texturing with the Cuttlebug Embossing folders (used with Sizzix machine):

Check out Kristina’s Round up next week. The entries are a blast to see what everyone comes up with.

Wash & Crayons

So I’m trying out Beate John’s Water Colour Wash and Water Colour Crayon Techniques . Check out her step by step on SplitCoastStampers for more details. Looked like fun to me so I raided my DH’s Oil Paints for some brush supplies. Shhhh.

The only Stazon Ink Refill colours I could find was RED. So I dropped a few drops in 1 container with water & a few more, for a darker concentration in the other … as per Beate’s instructions. Here’s how it ended up:

I wanted a richer colour & I thought amoungst all the reinkers I had, surely I had more stazon, but alas it is gone. This is how I store the re-inkers (it’s a potting tray from IKEA).

Really wanted another colour, so I raided the ink off of the ink pad of the Purple Stazon.

Not sure how much you can see it, but I did like how it changed the colour.

That was all a bit of a mess, so to let it dry, I ripped off another clean paper … This is how I store the paper on a roll from …. IKEA (which translated isn’t it Sweedish, for cheap?) which I keep attached to the under side of the table.

Okay, it’s dry. Now onto Beate’s next step the Water Colour Crayons:

Colour the stamp.

Spray with a fine mister (& raided by daughters spritzer from her ballet bag). Spray from a distance or it’ll just be a puddly mess.

TAH-DAH … my very own DSP:

Cut, cut, Trim, Trim, stamp, stamp …

It was a bit messy, but not any worse than glitter. Check out what all everyone else had done over at SplitCoastStampers … great ideas.

Stamp Sets: Water Colour Garden II, Friend to Friend.

Inks: Stazon Royal Purple Ink, Stazon Red Ink Refill.

Other: Coluzzle Circle Cutter, Dimensionals, Water Colour Paper, Corner rounder, Water colour Crayons.

Paper: S.U. DSP, Water Colour Paper from Walmart.

Cooling off …

The weather was a bit hot (for us) yesterday after school. It was 30C & then the humidex … add 10C onto it. Sprinkler time! It wasn’t really sunny, infact it LOOKED like it was going to down pour. We are still waiting for the big t-storm. Until then it’s a/c on in the house & sprinklers outside.

Here are my yahoo’s having a blast in the backyard. I think there is still grass in the bathtub.

Dad, Make it Blow up Again!

So it was da boyz in da house the other night. Emma was out & I got to be exposed to super “guy night”. It all started with a discussion of what Malcolm wanted to be when he grew up & how when Daddy was little his job didn’t even exist so perhaps that will happen with Malcolm. We discussed tradional occupations & no so traditional occupations. Where did we end up, but on ‘demolitions engineer’, specifically blowing up buildings. Enter You Tube. We showed the boys what a demolitions engineer does & that was that, there were glued to the computer watching guys blow stuff up. Liam still wants to be a Helicopter PiWET, but blowing things up still cool.

Here’s my boyz:

Promise Kept

We’ve had some crazy weather here in Ottawa. There was penny sized hail yesterday (Good bye garden) and today, rain bucketing down. But look what we were given just before 8pm tonight, as we were bringing the kids in …

I wish I could use photo shop to better represent how bold the colours were, but I don’t dare mess with it. I’ll save it for a day when I want to practice my editing.
