Birthday Reminder Note Book

Paper Craft Planet’s Colour Inspiration #7 inspired me to use my “Zutter Bind it Allthat I’ve had for over a month & haven’t tried yet.  I’ve been meaning to try the ‘bind it all’ for a while, but I guess it intimidated me a bit.  Honestly though, it’s so simple! I got the idea for a Birthday Journal from June over at You Tube.   Maybe I’ll remember to mail the cards in time for peoples birthdays now.  LOL

Here’s the inspiration Katherine gave us from the latest Pottery Barn Catalogue:

Like I mentioned this was my first go at the ‘bind it all’, but there are so many helpful tutorials on youtube with tips like ‘how to hide the wire in the inside’ and such that it was easy peasy.

The Stamp set is from SU’s ’so many scallops’ and I used a few SU circle punches & even a metal rimmed label from Staples to decorate.  Nothing fancy, actually quite quick.

I just covered some Cereal Box Card Board with Ivory CS (don’t for get to mitre the edges, for a clean finish) and then cover the inside with another rectangle of CS.  Voilà!  The Front Cover & Back Cover are the same one the inside.

Thanks, Katherine, for the fun inspiration this week.  I’m looking forward to seeing other interpretations over at Paper Craft Planet’s Colour Inspiration pcpcolor7.

Used:  Ivory CS, Kiwi Kiss CS, Pumpkin Pie Textured CS, Buttons, Photo Frame Punch, Circle Punches, Metal Rimmed Labels from Staples, So Many Scallops Punches, Chocolate Chip Ink, Kiwi Kiss Ribbon, Bind It All, Wire Trimmers, Cereal Box Card Board, Super Sticky Tape.

Mike: Pretty in Pink & Rosey Red

Oh my, I must admit I had a bunch of fun with Kristina’s Colour Inspiration #36.  I had these pictures of Mike that I took recently & I really wanted to scrap ‘em!  Little did I know I would use Pinks & Roses for him. If you knew my computer programming, hockey coaching, Monty Python loving hubbie, you’d know the man doesn’t wear pink.  Ever.  I think that’s why I had so much fun with this layout.  The Orchid & Carnation flowers on the ‘make shift’ office in the dining room were what motivated me to use this photo for this colour challenge.

Here are the colours and the fun pin-cushion inspiration, courtesy of Kristina Werner, we used for this weeks challenge:

I pulled out my sewing machine & some No. 100 Mettler Olive thread, just freehand sewing.  The Sizzix Shadow Box Alphabet Set,  as well as the Big Shot Top Note Die.  My chicken scratch handwritting, which is kinda on an angle now that I look at it, lol.  Ya, I’m babysitting 2 of the neighbour kids today 5 & 7, as well as my own 3 kids … have a little grace for me.

Here’s my Scrap Spread:

Thanks for the fun, Kristina!  I’m off to make lunch for the kids, but will be checking out the other fun interpretations, when I have a chance this today & tomorrow!

Used:  Rose Red DSP, Pretty in Pink CS, Old Olive CS, White CS, Old Olive Marker, No. 100 Mettler Olive thread, Sizzix Shadow Box Alphabet Set,  Big Shot Top Note Die, Big Shots, Dimensionals, Tag from Staples.

Heart Struck

Saw the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge Sneak Peek this morning.  I actually had thought it was from Narnia/Lion Witch & Wardrobe, but it turns out the image was from ‘An Affair to Remember’.  Cool!  Valentine’s Card!  So here’s CSCC #12, An Affair to Remember …

So “An Affair to Remember” images is the Empire State building, but I couldn’t come close to Sankari’s card, nor Anthonette’s so I went with another image from the movie & the general “love theme”:

Enter quick cards with my Cricut cutter with the Home Accents & Beyond Birthdays cartridges.  I used the cut out corner piece flourish for an archer’s bow & then used it as a mask with Riding Hood Red Ink & a sponge.  Nothing fancy.

Here’s my card:

Thanks for the fun, ladies!  Be sure to check out other submissions at CSCC, PCP (PaperCraftPlanet:  Cinema), or SCS SplitCoastStampers.

Used:  Riding hood Red CS, Cornucopia DSP, SU Bella Rose DSP, Cording from my sewing Stash, Cricut Cutter, Beyond Birthdays Cartridge, Home Accents Cartridge, Riding Hood Red Ink, Chocolate Chip Marker, Dimensionals.

Merry Christmas!

Happy Christmas to all!  These are some pics from here in Ottawa from yesterday & today.  May you have a blessed Christmas.

Crafts for kids.

They’re off … they’re home.  What do we do?  Only so long to toboggan & then back inside.  I really don’t want them watching tv/video all the time.  Let’s craft!  To be honest, only 2 of the kids are into ‘crafting’ & the other one, well, “I’ll read, thanks, when are we doing the gingerbread house?”  LOL

I saw this craft in my Martha Stewart Magazine.  I thought it would be fun to have a go.  So here’s an easy craft for the kids, well, my take on it anyway.  I think I wasn’t paying all that close attention, because the tree circles had less folds than in Martha’s Magazine, but did I mention we had 8 hands at work?

Glue (tombo glue, quick drying & strong!). Glue, skewer, + kids, need I say more?  no photos.

After glueing the circles (carefully & really sticky) on a bamboo skewer, we dried it on it’s side (suspended between two books).  We then cut down the skewer we stuck the stick in some plasticine & TAH DAH.  The Star was added at the top of the skewer.  The star was made of 5 star punches bone folded in the centre & then glued on to the top of the skewer.

Used:  Always Artichoke DSP, More Mustard CS, Bambo Stick (cut down), Tombo Glue, Star Punch, Bone Folder, Cutter, Paper Piercer.

Busy Saturday

Busy Saturday.  Hockey {game} for Malcolm & DH.  After, to get our Christmas Tree, yes we put our Christmas tree after all December birthdays here, so it goes up “late”.  I love it though, makes it extra special.

Three kids & two adults agreed on “the” tree fairly quickly & DH tied the beast onto our mini van.  I never seem to win the debate, “we don’t need a huge tree”.  Out voted 4 to 1.

Decorating, relax for a bit & off to bed kids.  Sunday there’s an early, early hockey practice & then early rehearsal for church.  The kids are singing 4 songs.  We will be flaking out in the afternoon, no doubt.

Okay, kids in bed, time for quick crafts.  Gifts for the boys hockey team.  ”honey, no ribbons, no frilly, it’s boys hockey, thanks”.  LOL  well, hmm, something to put m&m’s in?  oooo the pillow box, oooo wanted to use that in bulk, this is perfect.  I must admit though, it was killing me not to put little ribbons or raffia on it, but boy were they quick to make.  I used my S.U. demo’s (thanks Marlayne!) video on how to make a pillow box.  I’m telling you, these were done in under 20 minutes.   LOVE IT.  DH giving it to the boys this morning.

Every time a bell rings …

Saturday, time for Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #11!  I saw the sneak peak yesterday and was completely stumped.  I was thrown off by the colour.  Sorry, man, black & white films were meant to be seen by the director, in well black & white.  I do love the movie & haven’t seen it yet this year, so will have to rent it this week!

I made a VERY quick card this week … like every one else, it’s a busy time.  I just pulled out my cricut & Joys of the Season cartridge & cut an angel out … “every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings ….”  Go Clarence!

The PP is from DCWV Christmas stack & I just randomly cut it.  That’s it, easy peasy. Freaky colours, I know I just wanted to try something different.  Maybe I should have made it black & white LOL!

Thanks for the fun ladies!

Used:  DCWV Christmas Stack PP, Bravo Burgandy CS,  Pink Passion CS, Joys of the Season Cartridge, Cricut Cutter, Dimensionals, Rhinestones, Offray Nice & Narrow Ribbon.

Helping Hands.

Been a bit busy baking lately.  No craft time … sigh, will have to make some time tomorrow.  These are some of the cupcakes.  As you can see, I have “helpers” while baking.  Tonight I’m working on “Amish Friendship Bread”. I was given the dough 10 days ago and have been tending it & today is baking day & passing on a portion of the dough to others.  mmm cinnamon smell baking mmm

Patty’s Baby Bib

When life gets busy, escape by crafting!  And boy, has it been busy, Liam’s birthday, DH’s birthday, and uh oh yes, Christmas.  AHHHHHH.  I refuse to go nutty over Christmas, it’s not what it’s about.  I decided today to take a wee break and pop over to Paper Craft Planet’s (PCP Colour Challenge Group), pcpcolor6 a fun escape.

Check out this inspiration photo from Baby Gap, courtesy of Katherine:

I saw a really cute bib-card tutorial on Patty Bennett’s blog, that I’ve been meaning to try for a while and when I saw Katherine’s challenge, well, I mean really, the time had come!  I don’t own a scallop circle big shots die … yet LOL, so I used my nestabilities scallops instead.  It adds a nice embossing too, but I think it turns out to be a much smaller card.  I also did my best to use all of the colours, but after a few different attempts, I just went with marker-sized dots.  Not sure why I went with Pink, everybody I know having babies are having boys.  Oh well, pink is cute.

Here’s the front of the card:

Here’s the inside of the card.  I used a little “clothing tag”  that I had hanging around my scrapbooking supplies.  I believe it was from Junkitz: Labelz.

Since it was fabric, I attached it with super sticky tape.

Okay, now back to the craziness of the Season!

1)  Liam (3) awaiting Santa’s arrival.  Insisting on wearing red, all red, today.

2)  Finishing off copious amounts of cheesecake from DH’s Birthday.

3)  Trying to keep the kids calm during this indulgent season.

Used:  So Many Scallops Stamp Set, Pink Pirouette Ink, Real Red Marker, Pixie Pink Marker, Green Galore Marker, Garden Green Marker, Pink Pirouette CS, Crop-a-Dile, Heart Shaped 3/16″ Eyelets, Nestablitites, Oval Punch Offray Ribbon,  Junkitz: Labelz., dimensionals, Scallop Punch, 1 3/4″ Circle Punch, 1/4 Punch (back of card), Super Sticky Tape.

Better Together.

I am amazed that Kristina Werner keeps up her Colour Inspirations despite busy schedules & feeling under the weather.  Please know that it is appreciated, though, I have so much fun with these.  Kristina’s Colour Inspiration #35 comes from uh … a co-workers sweater … That makes me laugh, she sees colour everywhere.

Here’s my card, I know it looks a bit red, not sure why, but it’s Close to Cocoa, honestly:

The sentiment is from S.U., called Define Your Life, and yes, that Lime-ish colour, that’s So Saffron, um, maybe it’s my screen or maybe it’s me … need {more} coffee.

Used:  Close to Cocoa CS, Chocolate Chip CS, So Saffron CS, Baja Breeze CS, Chocolate Chip DSP, Manchester DSP, Cricut Cutter, the garland from Joys of the Season Cartridge set at 1″, Straight Pin from my sewing basket, Gemstone Stickers from Forever in Time, Martha Stewart Twill Tape, Dimensionals, Rectangular Scalloped Nestabilities, Staples, Super Sticky Tape.

Be sure to check out other fun interpretations at Kristina’s Blog!  Hope you’re feeling better, Kristina.

Personal Note:

1)  Way to Go, Emma-Sian, on your A- on your Math Test!

2)  Happy Birthday, My LOVE!
