Flying with Joy

So I saw the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge Friday Sneak Peek had a blast reading all the comments & guesses. Had some fun doing “research” on what movie the girls took the photo. Wow, tuffy, but like the guessing.

If you haven’t tried playing this creative challenge, you hafta! Too much fun!

This week’s Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #10 is from Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone. I’m not sure which Potter book that is, and honestly, I don’t know all that much about it. I know that they wear burgandy & yellow scarves & school outfits that look like tiny judges. I also ‘know’ in one of the movies there is a flying ball in a game of Quidditch called the ‘Golden Snitch’. That right? Anyways with this little bit of knowledge I played the CSCC game!

So like I said, I went with the school colours & the golden snitch ball on a Christmas card. Honestly, such a stretch I’m not sure what I think of it, but it was fun to make.

I used Gold paper (Grafix Gold film) cut & embossed in a circle Nestability an owl stamp (for the wings) from the Stamp Barn, Galaxy Gold Brilliance Tsukineko Ink, Inkadinkado clear stamps (Warm Holiday Wishes).

Off to check out the other fun interpretations at CSCC, SplitCoaststampers, & PaperCraftPlanet. Thanks for the fun, Sankari & Brooke & all the participants at CSCC!

Sparkly Gift Card

Paper Craft Planet’s Weekly Wednesday Colour Challenge, #5.  I didn’t get around to working on it today partially because of, well, Christmas, I was working on ’some’ of the cards.  The overseas & packages were sent out, but not the American & Canadian Cards.  I swear if it wasn’t for the last minute, I’d get nothing done.  But I’m plugging away & I do love cards & sending pics to friends & family for at least the yearly contact, everyone is so spread out.

I did make some time to play in the studio today, so onto the inspiration!  pcpcolor5 was from pier1, thanks Katherine for providing the inspiration & link.

I fell in love with this shiney purple paper, metalic almost.  Oooooo, it’s is luxurious & my photos don’t do it justice.  I bought it at Heather’s Stamping Haven, here in Ottawa:

Here’s the card.  I wanted to have a sentiment on it, but didn’t have one in French that would work.  I’m working on gift cards for the children’s teachers.

and here’s the inside of the card:

Three stripes of super sticky tape in a rectangular pocket to hold the gift card up, works well:

Oh yes, & one more “reason” it took me sooooo long to do the card & blog entry, my apprentice, Liam.  He was given a little digital camera from his ‘Nanny & Poppy’ for his 3rd birthday last week.  Yes, I know his shirt is on inside out & probably backwards, he insists that he has dressed himself fine.  Who am I to argue?

Thanks for the fun, Katherine!

Used:  Metalic Purple paper (Bought at Heather’s), Pacific Point CS, Lovely Lilac CS, Old Olive CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Martha Stewart Clear Gem Stickers (EK Success), Scallop Punch, Super Sticky Tape, Cricut Cutter, Cricut Cartridge:  Joys of the Season Set at 3 1/2″ & 1 1/4″.

Baby’s First Christmas.

Woo-Hoo, Tuesday, Kristina Werner’s Colour Inspiration time!  Colour Inspiration #34 is a photo Kristina took of a skein of yarn in the window of of Purl Soho.  Pretty, so, so pretty & I don’t have to battle with Pumpkin Orange LOL.

Found these Brad Combo’s (felt flowers & glass-like brads) from Making Memories, that matched to a ‘t’ & well, I liked ‘em but didn’t know how to use them.  Then I was looking at the colours & it reminded me of baby-colours, so I went with a quilt like card.  Not sure if it has the effect I was looking for, but she’s done!

Here are a few if the MM Brads, b/ground is Cricut cutter, Mini Monograms cartridge, on Martha Stewart DSP.  No Certainly Celery CS, but the brad counts, yes?

Here’s the ‘quilt’ card:

Looking forward to seeing all the other wonderful submissions & fun interpretations at Kristina Werner’s Blog.

Used:  Textured CS:  Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, Bordering Blue, Sage Shadow, Martha Stewart DSP, Bordering Blue Button (from my stash), Lermon Decor 663 (sage coloured) Embroidery Floss, Making Memories Pastel Brad Combos (felt flowers & glass brads), Cricut cutter, Mini Monograms Cartridge, Offray Ribbon 3mm pastel pink, Uni-ball Signo White Gel Pen, Scallop Punch, Corner Rounder, Super Sticky Tape, 1/16″ punch (for a hole for the brads).

Pipers!

Paper Craft Planet is continuing to motivate me to work on my “make ahead” Christmas Scrapbook.  All ready for photo & jouraling.  I’m a bit confused, I put down ‘10 pipers piping’, but I’m uploading into the 11th day of the contest … I dunno, can’t remember the song that well, but my Cricut Cartridge has 10 pipers piping, 11 ladies dancing & 12 drummers drumming, so I hope this still counts, I have a musical instrument on it & it’s a paper creation, so Bob’s yur Uncle.

I bought this very cool ink called Dew Drop Brilliance (Galaxy Gold, Platinum Planet Starlite Silver & Cosmic Copper) by TSUKINEKO and used the Platinum over Close to Cocoa CS for the Flute/Pipe.  The photo is kinda’ poor, looks much better IRL.

Used:  Dew Drop Brilliance (Galaxy Gold, Platinum Planet Starlite Silver & Cosmic Copper) by TSUKINEKO, Chocolate Chip Marker, Baja Blue CS, Always Artichoke CS, River Rock CS, Close To Cocoa CS, Manchester DSP, Cricut, Joys of the Season Cartridge, Scallop Punch, Dimensionals.

Busy Saturday.

Okay so besides the typical Saturday running around we do, DH was good to put up the Christmas lights outside.

How does a Cannuk put up lights?  With two hockey sticks taped together, balancing a top a shakey ladder.

We realized that (okay, I realized) that we didn’t have enough lights.  There was a bit of a break & the lighting continued on a the end of the day.

Ah yes, and tomorrow somebody in this house is turning 3.  Here he is after he discovered his cake in the afternoon.

The cake isn’t really pretty, but man, the recipe is my mum’s & it’s well, AWESOME.  Chocolate cake with fudge icing.  I made a tripple layer cake this time for kicks.  I was trying to do it quickly where Liam wouldn’t see it, but ya, no, that doesn’t work when he’s in the house.

I also promised Liam we’d make “scooby snacks”.  I opted with little gingerbread cookies in the shape of dog biscuits.  Man, you can find any shape cookie cutter out there.  Anyways, here they are ready to go into the oven.  The recipe is an easy one.

No time for crafting today, big parTAY here tomorrow with family.  Need to go wrap some pressies.  Night!

The Sound of Cinema Challenge

How excited was I? I get to do a card for Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge! Everyone there is so talented & sweet & well, I LOVE that site for creative brain stretching! I must admit, I thought for a bit, man, I can’t do the “sneak peek” guessing, ah well, next time. CSCC #9 is drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr: The Sound of Music!

Had a lot of fun with textures on these cards. There are some AMAZING papers out there, soft & fuzzy, wonderful. The Cream flourished velvet paper was in a bundle from Michaels (left overs I guess) for $10, and used the 40% off coupon, so really not that much. On the second card, the Brown Velvet Papers (Three 8.5×11’s for $7 I think) were from Heather’s Stamping Haven. The hand made paper almost has a paper towel spongy-ness to it. I think I got that from the dollar store. Great for texture.

Um okay what is it with people making clothes from curtains? First Gone with the Wind/Carol Burnet & now Maria. This card, I thought I would make around those groovy curtain-fabric play clothes that Fräulein Maria made for the Von Trapp children. When I made the card & was asking myself who on earth would I give a card like this to? Then I hand wrote in “Hang in there” on a tag, for a buddy of mine who is going through the rollercoaster of selling her home to buy another. Coat hangers (dollar store) BARGOON!

The second card is my absolute FAVOURITE scene in the movie, that I watched over & over again. Liesl meeting her beau by the gazebo. {sigh} I wanted that dress & it was so sweet:

Here’s the card, I used Super Sticky Tape to gather the ribbon (it glues the ribbon to ribbon nicely) and the handmade paper at the bottom is just cut in angles and then glued on in pieces:

For more fun interpretations check out Split Coast Stampers or Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #9.

12 day 8, Advent Style.

Paper Craft Planet is onto day 8 of the “12 Days Contest”.  So:  the ‘Eight Maids a Milking’, day, where we were to make something with a ‘cow’ or a ‘maid’ on it, and since I am still plugging away at my Christmas Scrapbook, I thought I’d give it a go.

I wanted to do a page that was a snap shot of everyone in our family & what was special to them.  Since there are 5 of us, I made it into an ‘Advent style Calendar’.  Here’s how I made the advent calendar, using my Coluzzle & circle punches:

I then used Super Sticky Tape to hold down the candy flaps, so they won’t peel off:

I’ll ask the kids & DH later what their “favourites” are & mark them in under each candy:

Here’s the finished ‘Make Ahead Scrap Pages’, ready for journaling & photos.  I did something like this (snap shot of everyone’s favourites) a few years ago.  Liam wasn’t around back then!  So time for a new one:

I’m off to check out other fun ‘Cow Creations‘ on PCP!

12 Day 7 Scrappin’

More fun!  Paper Craft Planet Challenge 4 came out on Wednesday & I didn’t have a chance to get at it until now.  Here’s the inspiration colours we could use:

I am still plugging away at my 12 Days “make ahead scrapbook”.  I figure that I will drop in some pictures & journaling over the holidays, while munching on copious amounts of cheese & egg nog in our fridge.

My Neutrals CS pack came in today, so I used the Basic Grey as the dark b/ground on the right.

Be sure to check out other fun interpretations of this challenge HERE at Paper Craft Planet and when uploading, be sure to USE EXACT TAG: pcpcolor4

Used:  Sage Shadow CS, River Rock CS, Basic Grey CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Holiday Treasures DSP, White Ink,  American Crafts Premium Ribbon, Cricut Cutter (set at 2″), Joys of the Season Cartridge, Scallop Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Circle Punch, dimensionals.

Oh! Before I forget: On a family note, Liam (almost 3) got his big boy bed yesterday!

Down came the crib … that was a lot of work, I’ve always been pregnant when that thing is moved so this is the first time I had my hand at it.  New found respect for DH.  Liam helped me:

& up went Liam’s brand new bed.

Yes, everybody try it out.  Actually, it is REALLY comfortable, man I need a new bed LOL

He was so excited last night that he couldn’t fall asleep for a while. Had to keep going in to calm him down.

Got him to sleep & then throughout the night we heard, “THUD”.  No crying, he was still fast asleep, but kept falling out of bed 4 or 5 times maybe?  Sorry for the poor focusing, was working with 7 watt night light :)

Just a funny night.

A Little Formal.

Okay, so Paper Craft Planet has this awesome contest on now & I have missed most every deadline, busy week.  Partly, it’s because I wanted work on a scrapbook & honestly, scrapbook pages:  much more time consuming than cards for me.

Today, I wanted to make the deadline & put a submission in for “7 Swans a Swimming” where we were to make a formal Mono Card.  I decided to used silver & white rather than black & white, so there ya go!  Hope it counts.

Here’s my little 4 1/2″ square card:

Be sure to check out other fun interpretations at Paper Craft Planet!  Thanks for the inspiration.

Used:  Silver CS, Glossy CS, Making Memories (?) metal washer, Rhinestone Brad, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Taffeta Fabric.

Orange, Teal & Celery Christmas.

Time for Kristina Werner’s Colour Inspiration #33!  Such ‘not my colours/beyond the comfort zone’ hues for me, but that’s why they call it a challenge.  I decided to go Andy Warhol meets Kristina Werner on this one. Oh dear, too funny.  I love the quad cards that Kristina does, but my version is not quite that.  Gave it a go anyway.

The inspiration were these Target buttons:

I used some water colour paper & a cheapo deer stamp from the Michaels Clearance bin for $1,50.

A wee bit of colouring with blender pen & markers & then embossed again on Chocolate Chip CS to cover up the coloured over reindeer.

Scallop punch, stamp, stamp, cut, cut …

Don’t forget to check out other fun interpretations on Kristina’s Blog.  Thanks, Kristina, so much for the fun inspiration!

Stamp), Clearance Stamp from Michaels bin ($1,50), Chocolate Chip CS, Certainly Celery CS, Pumpkin Pie CS, Taken with Teal, Whisper White CS, Water Colour Paper, Chocolate Chip Marker, Certainly Celery Ink, Pumpkin Pie Ink & Marker, Versa Fine Onyx Black Ink, Black Embossing Powder, Square Scallop Punch, Super Sticky Tape, Blender Pen, Offray “sheerly yours” ribbon, Dollar Store sparkle!
