Button Borders
I was perusing Split Coast Stampers today and saw this Scrapbooking Challenge Post for Button Borders, IFC22. The Contest started last week, so I don’t think I’ll be able to come near for points; however, it’s a wonderful motivator for me & if I can make even a few scrap layouts, it’s better than none.
Here’s the a link to the SCS Gallery for Button Borders for all the fabulous creations that have been submitted so far.
Here’s my layout. I can’t seem to work in just one page, I always look at facing pages as one unit. So here’s my ’stitched-buttoned’ scrapbook layout of our Bowling day, oh my almost a year ago.
Thanks, Jenn, for the fun inspiration.
Used: Always Artichoke Textured CS, Always Artichoke DSP, Provo Craft Natural Pine (Debbie Crabtree Lewis) PP, Assorted Navy Buttons, Thread & Sewing Machine, Chalk Board Font, Mini Glue Dots.
A Love Note.
Woo-Hoo, can’t tell you how much I enjoy the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge. Believe me, it is a challenge, because it makes you think beyond just one image, but hey that’s what I love about it. This week’s Sneak Peak on Friday were a blast to guess. I swear that’s half the fun. After the unveiling this morning, the movie was the epic, “Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Rings“. Ya, I was way off base. I thought it was ‘Prince Caspian’. J. R. Tolkien & C.S. Lewis (Narnia) were friends, but besides that, I was no where near the right guess.
I must admit I really had problems trying to come up with something representing “LOTR”. I kept thinking I should make a card for a “Need a pedicure? Going from Hobbit to open toe sandal, Gift Card?”. But that was just too weird. So I went the with the subplot of Elf-Human love with Viggo Mortensen as ‘Aragorn’ & Liv Tyler as ‘Arwen’. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a good love twist.
I don’t think this quote (A kiss seals two souls for a moment in time-Levende Waters) was in the movie, but it fits. Here’s my card:

Used: Nestabilities, Antique Copper Brads, Black Hemp Twine (Premium Waxed Jewelry Cord Hemp, the Beadery Craft Products), Celtic Knots Stamps Set (SU retired), Creamy Caramel Ink & CS, Brown Velvet Paper (Heather’s Stamping Haven), Purely Pomegranate CS, Fresh Paint Vellum Quote Book (K. & Co.: Marcella), 170lb Heavy Weight Bienfang Canasette Paper Canvas.
Glitter Glue Pen
Valentines craftin’ mood! Pink, baby, bring it on! Took this picture by the window, with some stripey shadows, that is suppose to be White CS, not patterned.
I used a Martha Stewart Glue Pen. Kinda cool actually, it’s just like a bic pen. My struggles with glitter didn’t seem so bad this time. I did use the Anti Static ‘Embossing Buddy’ over it too & that seemed to help. The glitter is called “Rubellite” & its from a trio of glitters called “Coral Reef Glitter Set” (Martha Stewart). The card is 4 1/8″ square.
Used: Kolette Hall Studio G Stamp (Bargain bin at Michaels), Detail White Embossing Powder, Versa Mark, Pink Pirouette CS, Pixie Pink Textured CS, Scallop Punch, 1 3/4″ Circle Punch, Craft Gross Grain Ribbon, Rubellite Glitter (Martha Stewart trio of Glitters called “Coral Reef Glitter Set”), Martha Stewart: Ball Point Tip Glue Pen.
Be Mine.
Here’s a fun colour inspiration from Kristina Werner, #37. This week’s colour inspiration are pencils from seejanework.com that Kristina took a photo of a co-workers’ desk. Too cute.
Here’s the colourful inspiration photo & the corresponding Stampin’ Up colours:
Here’s my go at Old Olive, Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie & Whisper White:
I tried quickly to make a box myself & then decided, who will know if I just cover a ‘not so pretty’ box up. Quick trip to the store for an inexpensive candy box (actually plastic that I covered up, with a really grotesque Cupid on the front eeeshhh).
The scallops are just 1/2″ circle punches taped on & then covered with more white CS.
The “Be Mine” is actually two stamps from a set called S.A.R. (some assembly required, 3 D Heart Stamp Set). That’s pretty much it. It was really very quick to put together. How quick? Um my boys & two of the neighbour children, playing Batman & Robin Lego wii, did not capture the joker quick. I wasn’t really timing, just was trying to get it done while I had the chance.
Thanks for the fun, Kristina! Be sure to check out other fun interpretations at Kristina’s Blog.
Used: Baja Breeze CS, Old Olive CS, Chocolate Chip Ink, S.A.R. (some assembly required, 3 D Heart Stamp Set), Velvet Olive Ribbon, Scallop Punch, 1/2″ Circle Punch, Rhinestone Brad, Pumpkin Flower, Heart Shaped Candy Box.
Sage, lots of Sage.
Time for Paper Craft Planet’s Colour Inspiration, pcpcolor8, had some challenges for me. I kinda chickened out a bit & really minimilized the mix of colours. Katherine picked out a wonderful inspirtion wreath from seasidewreaths, here:
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Sage Shadow, outside of EE colours, it’s one of my fav’s. Not blue, not green, not grey. I dunno, just calls to me. So that’s why I covered the birthday card in it.
I had this Sage coloured Ribbon from the Michaels clear out bins, but I to change it up a bit by sewing on a chocolate & vanilla thread across. It didn’t come out how I had invisioned, but I don’t mind it. I hit the Olive & Blush with the Buttons. That’s not cheating is it? The colours are on there. Here’s the card.
Thanks, Katherine, for the fun inspiration this week. Check out Paper Craft Planet: pcpcolor8 for more fun interpretations.
Used: Sage Shadow Textured CS, Chocolate Chip Ink, Assorted buttons (Blush/Olive/Chocolate), Fantaisies d’anniversaire Stamp Set, Super Sticky Tape, Dimensionals, Sage Ribbon from Michaels Clear out bin sewn with Chocolate Chip coloured thread & Vanilla thread.
My first digital Scrapbook page!
I’m not sure if I “get” this whole digital scrapbooking, but I bought a magazine the other day & thought “Hey, I have an unloved Adobe Illustrator CS3, let’s try something new”. So here is my first ever scrap page, yes it’s not a layout, it took me 2 hours to figure out how to do one page LOL. I saw Kristina Werner’s tutorial on using Illustrator to Quickuts Silhouette (which I don’t own), but the Illustrator copy gave me ideas for the “Love of my Life” type.
That’s all, just thought I’d try something new & maybe dust off some cobwebs off of Ai CS3. I have to laugh as a good chunk of time was remembering how to draw a heart with the pen tool. (My own note: Draw One pen line up & directly below that, one pen line down & bend, copy, paste, reflect & reposition) Oh my too funny.
Used: time & Ai CS3. No kit. No glue. No Stamps. No Ink. No punches …. ahhhhhhh
Embellishment clear out.
January … my “I need things organized or I’ll go nuts time”. Happens every year, well more than that, but this is my winter “need to organize”. It seems I do a bit of shuffling of things & never really clear out clutter as I should. The little bits that happen so far are, “do I really need this craft stuff? Have I ever really used this tool? These Embellishments that were so darn cute at the dollar store, that I snatched them up without a project in mind. Time to use or donate.
Here is some of the “embellishment clear outs”. Use or loose. This little bear was part of a set, which I will probably let my DD make something for her buddies with the rest of the little hearts it that came in the set. It is from “crafts metal-rimmed tags” scrapbook activites. He is a cutie & I thought that it would be good on a valentines card. The card is 4 1/4″ Square, with a disco ball look LOL.
Used: Regal Rose CS & Textured CS, 3/4″ Circle Punch, Rhinestones, Mini Glue Dots, Craft White Ribbon, Bear from “crafts metal-rimmed tags” scrapbook activites.
If you Knew my Emma …
Had a crazy couple of days here in Ottawa. Malcolm (7) had an all day tournament about an hour away from here & DH, his coach, lost his voice, cheering our team on to the rank of Champions! Lots of fun, long day. That same night, last night, my youngest (3) woke up sick & had a really rough night. I am working on about 2-4 hours sleep, hard to tell when you’re woken up every 15. I am so past that stage & I’m feeling the effects today + that darn sore throat, yuck.
I did see this week’s Cinema Saturday Creative #13, ‘Mama Mia’ and had to give it a go. Crafting always makes me feel better! The Sneak Peek from yesterday, wow, tough, even with the hints, way to go Carol for guessing it! So it’s Mama Mia! After humming ABBA songs through out the day, I thought I’d go with this image for a creation. The Notebook/Diary is for my DD (9) & yes it has a lot of “bling & sparkle” but if you knew my Emma you’d know she’d love it.
I went with this image of Sophie, with her Mum’s Diary. Beautiful scenes of Greece too, wow.
I used my ’Zutter Bind it All‘ again & maxed out my Sizzix Big Shot Top Notes Die Cut. The Top Notes cuts a lot but WARNING it’s not quite strong enough for the ‘Zutter’ Chipboard, that stuff is REALLY Thick, especially when you also line it with a heavy sandpaper like glitter CS. Wow. I hope I haven’t squished the foam too badly.
Here’s what I made for my Emma-Sian:
And here’s the inside, just printer paper, cut down.
Thanks for the fun, ladies at CSCC! It was a nice reprieve today.
Used: Top Notes Die Cut, Big Shot, Zutter Bind It All, S.U. Flower Punches, Bling Bling Shimmer Cardstock 6″x6″ (Forever In Time), Gemstone Stickers (Forever In Time), Pixie Pink CS, Tempting Turquoise CS, Silver Rick Rack, Sizzix Sizzlits Script Alphabet, Sizzix Machine.
Personal Note:
My Hockey Champion, at the end of the day:
His Trophy for being Champion Team, did I mention he got a goal!
My little Liam & uber hockey coach, the day before the little guy got sick:
Right, I’m off to get kids ready for bed. Early morning, (3rd day of) hockey tomorrow for voiceless coach & tired 7 year old champion and hopefully blessed night for everyone. Night all!
