Cake Mum

Today is my oldest son’s birthday … 9 can you believe it?  Oh my, Malcolm.  Anyways, it’s a busy one, getting his favourite cake ready before the kids come home from school today.  I did manage to take a couple of pics (gotta love time delay feature on the D80).

I was playing around in illustrator (using Didot Font, Poplar Std Black, the pen tool & some canned illustrator brushes).  I had fun with this & if anybody ever watches Cake Boss, you’ll know why I’m giggling at this.

The Patterned Paper & Photo Edge masks are from Sande Krieger (French Laundry).

Cake Inspired

Time for a challenge from Embellish Magazine.  This challenge is to add a decorative border, using paper.

I thought the cake image from Queen of Tartes was pretty cool.  I did my best at drawing this in Illustrator & then saving it as an SVG & then using my cricut machine to cut.  As for the colours, I had some of this paper from Karen Avery called Orchids that hit the green, yellow, pink & peach targets fairly well.  The sentiment is from Vintage Postcard, Stampin’ Up!  Along with Cameo Coral & Green Galore Markers & some embroidery floss.

Honestly, the colours are there …

Here’s my card:

Here’s my illustrator drawing.  It’s saved as a jgp file here, for some reason, my blog won’t upload svg files & I don’t have time to figure out why.

Bow for Liam

Paper Craft Planet’s 12 Days Contest is on & today is Day 5, where Kim Burmeister  has an awesome tutorial for these cute little bows.  I’ve wanted to make these paper bows before, but when I saw how quick & easy it was I thought let’s give it a go.  Tomorrow we’re celebrating Liam’s 4th Birthday with family & although we haven’t wrapped his pressie yet, this cute little bow will adorn the top.

Be sure to check out Kim’s Video:

Be sure to play for your chance to win at Paper Craft Planet!

Oh yes, Liam’s pressie may not be wrapped, but Dinosaur Hill is ready.  Cookies:  Sugar.  Cake:  Mum’s Light & Fluffy Chocolate, with her Fudge Icing recipe.  Diabetics beware, even standing close to the cake is dangerous.

Celebrate with CAKE!

Well, I’m not kidding you when I say it’s been a crazy week, with some craziness on the schedule for the foreseeable future. DH is travelling a bunch. I’m not complaining, in these nutty times, he has a job that provides for our family, but I miss my second engine in the evening. Sick kids on & off, but not too sick, thank goodness.

Oh yes, oh yes, happy news for me & a bit of a shocker still–I am part of the Design Team over at Paper Craft Planet.  I adore that sight, the crafters are AWESOME & all really sweet & as I’m getting to know them more, they are a HOOT!  Love IT!

I thought I would celebrate my fun PCPlanet news with one of my favourite Challenges out there!  Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge.  This week’s challenge, #58, is the Audrey Hepburn/Gregory Peck classic princess movie, Roman Holiday.

I found the template for the Cake Box from Ruthannzaroff.  I used 2 pieces of 12×12 Patterned Paper from Robin’s Nest Scrapbooking (Cream Paisley, I believe).  I was able to cut 8 cake pieces using that template.

Glossy Stock White Paper was run through the Cuttlebug with Scalloped Nestabilties.

The Filigree Stamp set is from Anna Griffin & the circular stamp is from SU! (retired) Papa’s Pocket.

Each piece would be a fun little party favour.  Kinda’ looks “showery/weddingy/princess-tea-party-ish”.  DH thought it kinda looked like a hunk of fancy cheese.  <insert head shake/eye roll here>  Anyways, think of the fun you could have, change the embossing powder or make it a chocolate cake, or a layered cake by printing off the template in various sizes!!   Honestly, it really is not fidgety to make.  If you like me you can try to pick at it for 10 minutes when ever you have a chance.

Okay, enough fun, onto reality of dishes, puppies, kids, oh I forgot Liam’s good pants have to be hemmed for tomorrow … hmmm maybe two sided tape would do until I had a chance to sew them properly …
