DIY Valentine Wreath

I’ve seen round wreaths made out of foam pipe covers, but who want a round wreath when you can have a heart shaped one?  DD wants one for her room too.  This craft takes under 10 minutes to make & all you need is a coat hanger, one of those foam pipes ($1.79 from the hardware store), 3 feather boas from the dollar store and a very understanding hubbie who doesn’t mind an uber girly front door.

Form the coat hanger into the design you want … Valentines … heart!

Cut the foam to length & wrap around the coat hanger.

Remove the plastic from the foam so that it sticks.

Tape the ends with packing tape or duct tape.

Okay, when I unravelled the boas from the package … they had little strings attached to either end, where the feathers strung onto.  Handy for hooking onto the hanger.

Wrap.  It took about 3 boas for me to get a puffy look.

When you get to the end of one, tie them together … the string is well hidden in the mass of feathers.

What a fun mess!

And we’re done.

Hang it on your door & see what the boys in your house think.  The girls love it.

This week’s 3D Challenge from Paper Craft Planet, 3d75, “Purse”-onality, is so darn cute!  Adela provided us with a freebie template pattern to make it too!

I used some Martha Stewart paper, Embellishments: Creations by AR, Stamp: SU! Cercle D’Amitié, Ink: Certainly Celery, MM Brads.  It was so quick to throw together.

Be sure to check out the 3d75 Album for more fun interpretations.

So what can you make?  How about Adela’s super cute Tea Time Set!

So I had a BLAST with my Cricut last week, trying out Adela’s New Templates.  I could have cut them out by hand, with the PDF’s she has, but I used the SVG’s she supplied and made this …

Isn’t that cute?  She designed this TEA TIME template, such a clever girl, I’m in awe.

It is a little box of course, that opens up …

Where you could put whatever, candies, jewelry, tea, :)

Just so darn cute.

Then I tried out her other tea template, the tea cup …

WITH A TEA BAG for the sentiment or a quick note.

Honestly, SWEEEEET!

And there you go, such an adorable Template available from Creations by AR.

Bonne Chance!

Box It Up

This week’s 3D Challenge over at Paper Craft Planet is from Lori Tecler with, 3D65. Lori has a link for the free template on her blog.

Also, check out further details on the “3D65 Box It Up”, in the Tuesday 3D Challenge Group.

Notice the small “helping hands” in the photo … that’s Liam. As I type this, I’m pretty sure the bucket of jelly beans is being quality tested by him.

I can’t blame him, they’re tempting.  He’s a jelly bean guy, like Dad.

The little bucket was from the Dollar store, just plain white, but that’s no fun, so I covered it with K & Co Berry Sweet Paper.

Okay, I need to check on my jelly bean monster right now.

Girly Box

Time for a challenge from The Cinema Saturday Creative Folks.  This week, #82 is the 2010 movie of Alice in Wonderland.  I really wanted to make a teapot for this one, but I can’t wrap my head around the template that I have in my brain.  I have a request into a friend who is a template making guru, so I’m hoping she can make it.  IN the mean time, I just made a VERY quick dress favour Box in illustrator & cut out on my small Cricut machine with the help of Sure Cuts a Lot Software.

Nothing fancy, but I think it would be cute for bridal showers or a little girls party.

For now, I just put in a bit of … what else … tea.

Here’s the template, if you want.  2 of my 3 kids think it looks more like a bear or mickey mouse ears, but they’re tough on me at times.  My middle son thought it definitely looked like a dress … Somebody’s getting a raise in their allowance :D

Ooh La La!

There is my go at the Reader’s Choice Colour Inspiration Challenge!  Which one?  Well, Kristina Werner had a fun {2} part Colour Inspiration Challenge.  Part {1} was to submit your own photos & then the votes then led to part {2} of the challenge … the Colour Inspiration!

I’m hoping there’s enough light gray in the mirror copic colouring.

Here was the inspiration photo, taken by Be Creative with Amy.  Good name for a blog :D , btw

Those High Heels

Time for Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge, #76, North By Northwest.

Great movie.  We’ve seen it a few times, just one of those classic Hitchcock movies.  Cary Grant & Eva Marie Saint–aren’t they just the most cool fashion-stylin’ actors?  Just screaming vogue.  For my card, this is the snippit from the movie that I took my inspiration, specifically Eva Marie Saint’s shoes.

I am not a shoe person, really, I wear birk’s all summer long, but I did have a pair of these shoes for my high school prom.  Italian, spent $90 on them, on sale, over 20 years ago.  I loved them.  They were identical to Eva Marie’s.

Sure Cuts a Lot Software has been so much fun for me.  I drew up a shoe in illustrator, saved it as an SVG & then used SCAL Software to talk to my little Cricut machine.  It was cut out on white & then Versa marked & embossed in Black EP.  I suppose my card is more of a Cut Out, rather than a piercing; hopefully it’s still okay I played along.  I did have fun with it.  Here’s my card:

Before drawing up the shoe, I took a peek of what was already out there & here are some examples I looked at.  Hope you can find some inspiration with these shoe cards too:

Making Greeting

Shirleys Cards

My Sheri Cards

The card is layered a little to give it depth & strength.  I think there are actually 5 layered cuts of the shoe.

The Pattered Papers is DSP from Stampin’ Up.  A Little Love SU Stamp Set was used in Riding Hood Red Ink & oval punches.

Thanks for the fun inspiration, Cinema folks!

Here’s the shoe I drew …

Oh yes, & here I am in the fancy prom dress & pearls my mum bought for me, earrings my cousin Cheryl gave me, updo salon hair, Brooke Shields eyebrows & my shoes that I oh so loved in 1990 …

I’ve Been Pinked

I’ve been having bunches of fun with the Moxie Fab World Trigger Tuesdays lately.  This week’s inspiration photo, You’ve Been Pinked, was chosen by Julie Masse with this Girl’s Birthday Party Candy Bar Photo:

I knew what I wanted to do with this challenge.  I must say, It took me forever to find where I first saw the blooming hearts idea.  What a pain, I should have book marked it, because it obviously stuck in my brain when I made the card.  Here is a  Blooming flowers idea, although I’m not sure that that’s where I first saw the idea.  Sorry whoever it was, but this is my take:

Used:  Stampin’ Up  Sweet Heart STamp Set, K & Company Wild Raspberry Dsigner Paper, ColorBox Brown Chalk Ink, Dimensionals, White CS, Martha Stewart Scoring Board, Corner Rounder, Tim Holtz Stamp, White EP, Versa Mark Ink, Pink Rick Rack.

Girly Note

Kristina Werner’s Colour Inspiration #44.   Such wonderful colours & inspiration.  Oh I wanna ‘nutha girl.  (somewhere DH is shuttering).  I can’t tell you how fast this card was to make … like 10 minutes, which is a record for me & like 5 of those minutes were shuffling through paper.  The Brad is from Making Memories & it just reminds me of Spring & Easter & cheerful stuff.

Used:  White CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Pink Pirouette CS, Making Memories Brad Combos (pastel), Martha Stewart Rose Petal Punch, SU Scallop Circle Punch, Dimensionals, Circle Punches, Edge Scallop Punch, Close To Cocoa Ink, Sweet Little Sentiments Stamp Set.

If you Knew my Emma …

Had a crazy couple of days here in Ottawa.  Malcolm (7) had an all day tournament about an hour away from here & DH, his coach, lost his voice, cheering our team on to the rank of Champions!  Lots of fun, long day.  That same night, last night, my youngest (3) woke up sick & had a really rough night.  I am working on about 2-4 hours sleep, hard to tell when you’re woken up every 15.  I am so past that stage & I’m feeling the effects today + that darn sore throat, yuck.

I did see this week’s Cinema Saturday Creative #13, ‘Mama Mia’ and had to give it a go.  Crafting always makes me feel better!  The Sneak Peek from yesterday, wow, tough, even with the hints, way to go Carol for guessing it!  So it’s Mama Mia!  After humming ABBA songs through out the day, I thought I’d go with this image for a creation.  The Notebook/Diary is for my DD (9) & yes it has a lot of “bling & sparkle” but if you knew my Emma you’d know she’d love it.

I went with this image of Sophie, with her Mum’s Diary.  Beautiful scenes of Greece too, wow.

I used my ’Zutter Bind it All‘ again & maxed out my Sizzix Big Shot Top Notes Die Cut.  The Top Notes cuts a lot but WARNING it’s not quite strong enough for the ‘Zutter’ Chipboard, that stuff is REALLY Thick, especially when you also line it with a heavy sandpaper like glitter CS.  Wow.  I hope I haven’t squished the foam too badly.

Here’s what I made for my Emma-Sian:

And here’s the inside, just printer paper, cut down.

Thanks for the fun, ladies at CSCC!  It was a nice reprieve today.

Used:  Top Notes Die Cut, Big Shot, Zutter Bind It All, S.U. Flower Punches, Bling Bling Shimmer Cardstock 6″x6″ (Forever In Time), Gemstone Stickers (Forever In Time), Pixie Pink CS, Tempting Turquoise CS, Silver Rick Rack, Sizzix Sizzlits Script Alphabet, Sizzix Machine.

Personal Note:

My Hockey Champion, at the end of the day:

His Trophy for being Champion Team, did I mention he got a goal!

My little Liam & uber hockey coach, the day before the little guy got sick:

Right, I’m off to get kids ready for bed.  Early morning, (3rd day of) hockey tomorrow for voiceless coach & tired 7 year old champion and hopefully blessed night for everyone.  Night all!
