Staying Creative

I saw this video several months ago & came across it again today.  Kinda’ a fun reminder for those slow creative times.  It’s from To-Fu Designs …

Shine Challenge

Thought I’d make a submission for “SHINE Challenge #9, Week of Jan. 30, I am valuable to God!”  How could I not make something with an inspirational message like that?  When life is rollercoastery (is that a word?) it’s nice to have your faith encouraged again.  So, with that, I’m including one of my favourite passages, from Jeremiah.  It reminds me that whatever is coming at you, good and bad, is meant to strengthen you and make you into the person you are meant to be.  Sometimes we may not see the results for a long time, or perhaps not even at all in our life time, but it is all part of the big plan, so no worries.  I need to be reminded and rejoice in each day.

Check out Paper Craft Planet, Tag:  SHINE013009 for more inspiring interpretations of this challenge.

Used:  Always Artichoke CS, Ivory CS, Manchester DSP, Nestabilities, Dimensionals, Always Artichoke Ink, Vintage Ranger Distressing Ink (Linen & Photo), Computer Printer, buttons from my stash, super sticky tape.

If you Knew my Emma …

Had a crazy couple of days here in Ottawa.  Malcolm (7) had an all day tournament about an hour away from here & DH, his coach, lost his voice, cheering our team on to the rank of Champions!  Lots of fun, long day.  That same night, last night, my youngest (3) woke up sick & had a really rough night.  I am working on about 2-4 hours sleep, hard to tell when you’re woken up every 15.  I am so past that stage & I’m feeling the effects today + that darn sore throat, yuck.

I did see this week’s Cinema Saturday Creative #13, ‘Mama Mia’ and had to give it a go.  Crafting always makes me feel better!  The Sneak Peek from yesterday, wow, tough, even with the hints, way to go Carol for guessing it!  So it’s Mama Mia!  After humming ABBA songs through out the day, I thought I’d go with this image for a creation.  The Notebook/Diary is for my DD (9) & yes it has a lot of “bling & sparkle” but if you knew my Emma you’d know she’d love it.

I went with this image of Sophie, with her Mum’s Diary.  Beautiful scenes of Greece too, wow.

I used my ’Zutter Bind it All‘ again & maxed out my Sizzix Big Shot Top Notes Die Cut.  The Top Notes cuts a lot but WARNING it’s not quite strong enough for the ‘Zutter’ Chipboard, that stuff is REALLY Thick, especially when you also line it with a heavy sandpaper like glitter CS.  Wow.  I hope I haven’t squished the foam too badly.

Here’s what I made for my Emma-Sian:

And here’s the inside, just printer paper, cut down.

Thanks for the fun, ladies at CSCC!  It was a nice reprieve today.

Used:  Top Notes Die Cut, Big Shot, Zutter Bind It All, S.U. Flower Punches, Bling Bling Shimmer Cardstock 6″x6″ (Forever In Time), Gemstone Stickers (Forever In Time), Pixie Pink CS, Tempting Turquoise CS, Silver Rick Rack, Sizzix Sizzlits Script Alphabet, Sizzix Machine.

Personal Note:

My Hockey Champion, at the end of the day:

His Trophy for being Champion Team, did I mention he got a goal!

My little Liam & uber hockey coach, the day before the little guy got sick:

Right, I’m off to get kids ready for bed.  Early morning, (3rd day of) hockey tomorrow for voiceless coach & tired 7 year old champion and hopefully blessed night for everyone.  Night all!

Every time a bell rings …

Saturday, time for Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #11!  I saw the sneak peak yesterday and was completely stumped.  I was thrown off by the colour.  Sorry, man, black & white films were meant to be seen by the director, in well black & white.  I do love the movie & haven’t seen it yet this year, so will have to rent it this week!

I made a VERY quick card this week … like every one else, it’s a busy time.  I just pulled out my cricut & Joys of the Season cartridge & cut an angel out … “every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings ….”  Go Clarence!

The PP is from DCWV Christmas stack & I just randomly cut it.  That’s it, easy peasy. Freaky colours, I know I just wanted to try something different.  Maybe I should have made it black & white LOL!

Thanks for the fun ladies!

Used:  DCWV Christmas Stack PP, Bravo Burgandy CS,  Pink Passion CS, Joys of the Season Cartridge, Cricut Cutter, Dimensionals, Rhinestones, Offray Nice & Narrow Ribbon.

Flying with Joy

So I saw the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge Friday Sneak Peek had a blast reading all the comments & guesses. Had some fun doing “research” on what movie the girls took the photo. Wow, tuffy, but like the guessing.

If you haven’t tried playing this creative challenge, you hafta! Too much fun!

This week’s Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #10 is from Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone. I’m not sure which Potter book that is, and honestly, I don’t know all that much about it. I know that they wear burgandy & yellow scarves & school outfits that look like tiny judges. I also ‘know’ in one of the movies there is a flying ball in a game of Quidditch called the ‘Golden Snitch’. That right? Anyways with this little bit of knowledge I played the CSCC game!

So like I said, I went with the school colours & the golden snitch ball on a Christmas card. Honestly, such a stretch I’m not sure what I think of it, but it was fun to make.

I used Gold paper (Grafix Gold film) cut & embossed in a circle Nestability an owl stamp (for the wings) from the Stamp Barn, Galaxy Gold Brilliance Tsukineko Ink, Inkadinkado clear stamps (Warm Holiday Wishes).

Off to check out the other fun interpretations at CSCC, SplitCoaststampers, & PaperCraftPlanet. Thanks for the fun, Sankari & Brooke & all the participants at CSCC!

The Sound of Cinema Challenge

How excited was I? I get to do a card for Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge! Everyone there is so talented & sweet & well, I LOVE that site for creative brain stretching! I must admit, I thought for a bit, man, I can’t do the “sneak peek” guessing, ah well, next time. CSCC #9 is drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr: The Sound of Music!

Had a lot of fun with textures on these cards. There are some AMAZING papers out there, soft & fuzzy, wonderful. The Cream flourished velvet paper was in a bundle from Michaels (left overs I guess) for $10, and used the 40% off coupon, so really not that much. On the second card, the Brown Velvet Papers (Three 8.5×11’s for $7 I think) were from Heather’s Stamping Haven. The hand made paper almost has a paper towel spongy-ness to it. I think I got that from the dollar store. Great for texture.

Um okay what is it with people making clothes from curtains? First Gone with the Wind/Carol Burnet & now Maria. This card, I thought I would make around those groovy curtain-fabric play clothes that Fräulein Maria made for the Von Trapp children. When I made the card & was asking myself who on earth would I give a card like this to? Then I hand wrote in “Hang in there” on a tag, for a buddy of mine who is going through the rollercoaster of selling her home to buy another. Coat hangers (dollar store) BARGOON!

The second card is my absolute FAVOURITE scene in the movie, that I watched over & over again. Liesl meeting her beau by the gazebo. {sigh} I wanted that dress & it was so sweet:

Here’s the card, I used Super Sticky Tape to gather the ribbon (it glues the ribbon to ribbon nicely) and the handmade paper at the bottom is just cut in angles and then glued on in pieces:

12 Day 7 Scrappin’

More fun!  Paper Craft Planet Challenge 4 came out on Wednesday & I didn’t have a chance to get at it until now.  Here’s the inspiration colours we could use:

I am still plugging away at my 12 Days “make ahead scrapbook”.  I figure that I will drop in some pictures & journaling over the holidays, while munching on copious amounts of cheese & egg nog in our fridge.

My Neutrals CS pack came in today, so I used the Basic Grey as the dark b/ground on the right.

Be sure to check out other fun interpretations of this challenge HERE at Paper Craft Planet and when uploading, be sure to USE EXACT TAG: pcpcolor4

Used:  Sage Shadow CS, River Rock CS, Basic Grey CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Holiday Treasures DSP, White Ink,  American Crafts Premium Ribbon, Cricut Cutter (set at 2″), Joys of the Season Cartridge, Scallop Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Circle Punch, dimensionals.

Oh! Before I forget: On a family note, Liam (almost 3) got his big boy bed yesterday!

Down came the crib … that was a lot of work, I’ve always been pregnant when that thing is moved so this is the first time I had my hand at it.  New found respect for DH.  Liam helped me:

& up went Liam’s brand new bed.

Yes, everybody try it out.  Actually, it is REALLY comfortable, man I need a new bed LOL

He was so excited last night that he couldn’t fall asleep for a while. Had to keep going in to calm him down.

Got him to sleep & then throughout the night we heard, “THUD”.  No crying, he was still fast asleep, but kept falling out of bed 4 or 5 times maybe?  Sorry for the poor focusing, was working with 7 watt night light :)

Just a funny night.

Christmas Dreams …

So, I must admit, I am a bit fixated on my “make ahead” scrapbook. It is so busy over the next few weeks that I feel if I work ahead on things, I might be able to keep up.  Only little things, promised cupcakes for classes, cookies, quiches for bible study group, Liam’s 3rd birthday (okay, well that’s big, but ya know), DH’s Birthday, ah yes & Christmas.  We have over the last few years, ’simplified’ Christmas & try to celebrate with out getting wound up in all the the crazy christmas shopping frenzies, and really enjoy this time of year.  Like I said, we try to keep the business to a minimum but it still gets a ‘bit’ nutty.

I should be working on cards, but that is next week, for now I am focused on my scrapbook.  When I saw Brooke’s Scrappage, motivated by Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge (Miracle on 34th Street), I knew I wanted to add some to my scrappbook too!  Thanks Brooke & Sankari for the fun motivation of Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge & for giving me a break in the week to have some fun in the craft studio.  I am now refreshed to go at the “list” of to do’s.

My Cricut got another work out with this page & I thought, rather than toss the scraps, that I would use the negative image to mirror on the spread.  Used S.U. Chocolate Chip PP.  The Rick Rack is from the fabric store & I like it against the Chocolate.

Here’s the spread, ready for journaling & pics:

On a happy note, I got my broken Nikon back yesterday.  I am still waiting on the lens, but I am happy that I have it back & am able to capture pics as they come up.  Below is one of those, “as they come up moments”.  We bought “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”, yesterday.  The kids (well except 2 year old) saw it in the theatres & were so wanted to watch it again.  Had to laugh when they wanted to see it in 3-D:

Be sure to check out other Cinema Saturday Creative Challenges “Miracle on 34th Street” here on CSCC8 or at Split Coast Stampers.  Is there one Paper Craft Planet too?  Not sure.

Used:  Chocolate Chip DSP, Chocolate Chip CS, DCWV Christmas Stack PP, Rick Rack, Dimensionals, Cricut Christmas Cheer Cartridge (set on 3 1/2″).

Framed Friend

Paper Craft Planet Colour Challenge # 3! Katherine was good to post a colour inspiration this week, even with Turkey & stuffing flying about in the States. My parents travelled to see my brother & celebrate Thanksgiving with their 5 grandkids. My kids wanted to go too, but ya know two 10 hour winter road trips … um no. For my folks, that’ll be the second Thanksgiving, as they just celebrated with us in October. LOL they could get used to this, I think!

Here’s the colourful inspiration that Katherine pulled from:

I don’t have any stamps that match the patterns, so I went with matching up the colours & came up with this wintery card. Oh, & before you say, yes, I have coloured outside the lines … silly aquapainter, with my shakey hands. I think I prefer colouring with a blender pen, when it comes to small spaces, because I am NOT giving up my Coffees & Teas!

Here’s my card.

For more fun interpretations, check out Paper Craft Planet: pcpcc3.

Used: Stamp from Remarkable, I believe, it’s unlabelled. Baja Breeze CS, Tango Tangerine CS, Chocolate Chip CS, Watercolour Paper, Chocolate Chip Marker, Baja Breeze Ink, Tango Tangerine Ink, Chocolate Chip Ink Riding Hood Red Ink, Aqua Painter, Versafine Onyx Black Ink, Stampendous Embossing Powder, Cricut Home accents cartridge, Coluzzle for circle, dimensionals.

Blessings

It’s Friday!  It’s the Sneak Peek for Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge.  I love that Sankari & Brooke are making these Sneaks so much fun to figure out.  Here’s the Peek:

I sorta thought it might be a cartoon toaster, & with American Thanksgiving coming up, I thought Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving.  I noticed that Arielle had thought that too (confirmed!), so I went with it.  Hope it’s right.

So I didn’t have any Charlie Brown Stamps … gasp … normally I have some “kids stamps” that I have picked up at the Michael’s clearout section for a $1, but alas no.  So I took a print out off of the web of Woodstock.

I traced around his print out lines with a Versa Mark Marker & then some Detail Black Embossing powder & heat set.  Then I took the Versa Mark Ink Pad & dabbed & chalked the Yoho Yellow on for his feathers.  His Turkey Tail Feathers are Scallop Circle Punches (cut in pie like shapes) in Eggplant, Rust, Summer Sun, Yoho Yellow & Mustard.

Okay, so this is one of my last pictures with my Nikon D80.  My baby, okay after my 3 darling children, my baby Nikon that I was given for my birthday last year, was also injured in the fall yesterday.  I must tell you as I looked through the lens to take this picture it was filled with shrapnel from my beloved lens (kaputz.)  I’m taking my baby in to get a check up & cleaning.  Sigh.  But not unlike Woodstock’s countless feathers here, I am filled with blessings abundant to get over the ‘bummer parts’.

Here’s my card:
