Martha’s Medallions

I saw this fun crafting idea on The Martha Stewart Show, Thursday September 25, called Embellished Gift Bags.  I have seen these “medallions” before, but never with little scalloped edges!

I didn’t have all the tools, so I sub’d a few things.  The only scallop cutter I have is this one from Fiscars, that I have owned for years.  It’s cuts very small scallops.  The Scallop cutter Martha has in her Craft line looks like it would work much better, but make do with what I have, until I add to my arsenal of crafting tools.  (DH is shuttering somewhere.)

This is what I used:

Okay, so following Hannah Milman’s directions, I cut 1 1/4″ wide x 12″ strips with a scallop cutter.  (slight pause here to change blade in Fiscar’s cutter.)

Pull away excess … man this was a well loved blade, time to buy a new one.  It’s a bit of a rough cut.

Okay, next, folding.  Eventually it needs to be folded (scallop width) back & forth, like a fan, but I found what worked for me was to first fold or score along each scallop & then do the back & forth fan shape.  It didn’t get all wonky that way:

And then you have a long narrow piece, which needs to have the ends atttached.  I used Sticky Strip Taped:

Okay, adhere it, into an accordian like bracelet:

And then you have small lampshades:

Push the lampshades flat, into a circle:

Tah-Dah!  How cute is that???

How do they stay flat?  Glue ‘em or use sticky strip on a cut out circle to afix to the middle:

I used a variety of punches & papers:

I also like to marker around the outside of the CS for definition:

And again, TAH-DAH:

So, do this, make smaller ones, attach ‘em to bigger ones, la-di-dah …
